Position Summary:
The Class A Driver I is responsible for safely operating a tractor-trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of up to 80,000 pounds while delivering and retrieving shoring equipment at customer job sites.

This is a customer-facing role requiring professionalism, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Drivers work closely with customers, dispatch, Equipment Technicians, and branch personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and timely deliveries. Employees must obtain crane certification within six months of hire if not already certified.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate commercial tractor-trailer equipment in compliance with company, DOT, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review driver logs, delivery tickets, and customer paperwork for accuracy.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Verify and secure equipment for delivery and pickup.
  • Coordinate with dispatch to ensure efficient routing and scheduling.
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment using proper rigging and safe work practices.
  • Partner with Equipment Technicians during deliveries and retrievals.
  • Identify and communicate jobsite or transportation hazards.
  • Maintain regular communication with branch personnel regarding delivery status.
  • Develop knowledge of Trench Shoring products and services to support customer needs.
  • Document deliveries, pickups, and equipment condition using company technology platforms.
  • Professionally represent Trench Shoring Company at all times.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and company standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Travel: Local travel only. Drivers are home most evenings.

Qualifications.
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) with clean driving record.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of flatbed truck and trailer driving experience.
  • Experience operating semi-trailers, air brake systems, and 13-speed transmissions.
  • Ability to obtain crane certification within six months of hire.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work safely in construction-related environments.
  • Basic computer and mobile device proficiency.

Preferred:
  • Current crane certification.
  • Construction industry experience.
  • Rigging and material handling experience.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic equipment and local routes.

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach.
  • Regularly enter and exit commercial vehicles and equipment.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; heavier items with assistance.
  • Secure loads using chains, binders, straps, and rigging equipment.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather and construction site conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and mobile technology.
