About the Job

JOB TITLE: Class A Driver I

This position is primarily responsible for driving a truck with a GVWR1 or GCWR2 more than 26,001 lbs. The position requires loading and unloading a truck with attached trailer, driving to and from Trench Shoring yards and customer locations, communicating with customers to coordinate on-site logistics, performing vehicle inspections, and upholding safety policies at all times while also following DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and company policies. Integral to the customer service model at Trench Shoring Company is our elite team of Class A drivers. Our drivers do more than just deliver and pick up our rental products; they are skilled operators with extensive crane operation experience and product knowledge. They deliver shoring equipment in some of the most technically difficult and challenging environments while providing top-notch customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains regular and dependable on-site attendance, arriving on time and prepared to begin work as scheduled.
Deliver and collect equipment in a safe and timely manner.
Interact professionally with customers, coworkers, dispatchers, and supervisors.
Use an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) to maintain hours of service in compliance with DOT standards.
Coordinate delivery schedules and use the most time-efficient routes.
Perform daily safety inspections of the vehicle.
Secure/tie-down a variety of truck and trailer loads according to DOT requirements and Trench.
Shoring Company safety standards.
Follow policies and procedures to ensure the job is done properly.
Adhere to all city, state and federal laws and regulations at all times, including those related to meal and rest breaks3.
Local travel only - drivers will be home most every night.
Perform other related duties assigned by management.
May be assigned to jobs that require working after regular hours.
Must report any and all driving infractions received at any time in any location to HR.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

3-5 years relevant driving experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be capable of reading, understanding, and following company procedures, road signs and verbal communications with law enforcement.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Required:

Must possess a valid and current commercial Class A Driver's License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Must be able to provide accurate information to fulfill the FMCSA Safety Performance History.
Request(SPHRR) per § 391.23 requirements.
Must possess a valid medical certification.
Crane certification is preferred. However, if not certified at the time of employment, the company will train for crane-certified operations.

Other Skills:

A minimum of 3 years' experience driving a flatbed truck with attached trailer preferred.
A background in construction is preferred.
Must be familiar with semi-trailers and full trailers, air brake systems and be able to operate a thirteen-speed transmission.
Must be confident securing truck loads with unique rigging demands (broken equipment and odd sized loads).
Must be mechanically inclined and familiar with hydraulic equipment.
Must have knowledge of local major and minor roadways and have the ability to effectively use maps and directions for efficient delivery.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems.
Computer knowledge is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequently required to stand for up to 8 hours at a time.
Frequently required to walk on flat ground and at uneven surfaces for up to 8 hours at a time.
Frequently required to sit (while driving) for up to 11 hours per hours-of-service requirements.
Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.
Continually required to talk and hear someone speaking at noisy locations.
Continually work near moving mechanical parts.
Occasionally work in high, precarious places.
Continually exposed to outside weather conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can occasionally become loud.
Be physically able to lift 70 pounds, but expected not to lift anything over 50 pounds on a routine basis.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include:

Close vision (with or without corrective eyewear).
Distance vision (with or without corrective eyewear).
Color vision.
Peripheral vision.
Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must frequently wear Trench Shoring Company mandated safety equipment (including but not limited to high-visibility vests, hard helmets, approved safety glasses and safety-toe boots).
The position is a safety-sensitive position.
