Position Summary:
The Equipment Technician supports branch and field operations by performing yard work, preparing and handling shoring equipment, and assisting with equipment deliveries and unloading at customer job sites.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing position that requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and effective communication. Equipment Technicians work closely with customers, drivers, dispatchers, supervisors, and branch personnel to ensure equipment is handled safely and deliveries are completed accurately and on time.
The position operates in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in general labor, construction, equipment yards, or warehouse operations is preferred. Employees must obtain crane certification if not already certified; company-paid training will be provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the safe and timely delivery, unloading, and retrieval of equipment at customer job sites.
- Perform general yard duties, including preparing, organizing, moving, and staging equipment.
- Inspect equipment and materials for visible damage, wear, or other safety concerns.
- Assist drivers and branch personnel with loading and unloading equipment using proper rigging and safe material-handling practices.
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and other equipment when properly trained, certified, and authorized.
- Follow all Trench Shoring Company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Assist with coordinating delivery schedules and identifying efficient local routes.
- Communicate effectively with customers, drivers, dispatchers, supervisors, and other branch personnel.
- Identify and promptly report equipment, jobsite, delivery, and workplace hazards.
- Provide a high level of customer service while at customer locations and job sites.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized yard and work areas.
- Develop working knowledge of Trench Shoring products, equipment, and services.
- Accurately complete required paperwork and electronic documentation.
- Represent Trench Shoring Company professionally at all times.
- Work outside regular business hours when operational needs require it.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Travel:
Occasional local travel may be required during the workday.
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- One to two years of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid, clean commercial Class C driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Ability to obtain crane certification through company-provided training.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow company policies, procedures, and safety instructions.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective time-management skills with the ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, construction-related environment.
Preferred:
- Current crane certification.
- General labor, construction, warehouse, or equipment-yard experience.
- Forklift operating experience.
- Welding experience.
- Rigging and material-handling experience.
- Mechanical aptitude or experience working with construction equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
- Regularly work with tools, equipment, rigging, and material-handling devices.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; move heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Safely enter and exit vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active construction or equipment-yard operations.
- Safely operate equipment and use mobile or electronic technology when trained and authorized.
- Maintain the visual, auditory, and physical awareness necessary to identify and respond to workplace hazards.
